HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (1-3, 0-0 Big West) fell to Washington, 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex, 6-1.
The Huskies captured the doubles point with a pair of 6-1 wins. Julija Lukac and Andjela Nemecivic defeated UH's
Paulina Petriskova and
Sarah Gealer then UW's Grace Ysidora and Natali Coronel took the point knocking off the 'Bows'
Rebecca Faltusz and
Kelsey Daguio.
In singles, UH battled, but came up just short. Hawai'i's
Cindy Nguyen earned UH's only point of the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Elianne Douglas-Miron. But UH was close in four of the other matches. Lukac won the first set over Petriskova by a break, 6-4 then won 6-2 for Washington's third point. Unfortunately, both Gealer and Daguio fell in the third set super tie-breakers. Gealer won the first set, 6-2, but Nemcevic came back to win the second set, 6-4 and then hung on in the super tie-breaker to win, 10-5. Washington's Coronel dominated Daguio in the first set, 6-1, but Daguio fought hard and took the second set 7-5. But Coronel would win the match 10-3 in the super tie-breaker.
Hawai'i remains at home to host Long Beach State in a conference match on Monday, Jan. 20 at 11:00 am then will host Washington State on Maui on Saturday, Jan. 25.
