RIVERSIDE, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (8-7, 2-1 Big West) overwhelmed UC Riverside, 74-61 on the road at the SRC Arena in Riverside, Calif. Four players recorded double-digits in points for UH. Shawna-Lei Kuehu led all scorers, pouring in a career-high 22 points while Kamilah Jackson added 20 points with a game-high 14 rebounds.
 
Kuehu also tied her career-high making eight of 14 field goals while going 6-of-8 from the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots. Kuehu leads the 'Bows with 16 blocks overall this season. It is the sixth time this season that Kuehu has posted double-figures in points—and the first time in her career that she's surpassed the 20 point plateau.
 
Jackson notched her league-leading 10th double-double of the season and 53rd of her career. She shot 6-of-11 from the floor and was a perfect 8-for-8 at the charity stripe. Jackson secured 14 rebounds with an assist, a block and a pair of steals in the game. It was the first time that UH had two players over 20 points since the 2010-11 season when Jackson scored her career-high 31 points and Keisha Kanekoa scored 22 against Cal State Bakersfield on Dec. 29, 2010.
 
Also scoring in double digits were Destiny King and Morgan Mason. King was solid in the paint, posting 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting. King was 4-for-4 from the free throw line with eight rebounds and two assists. Mason tallied 10 points with a 2-point bucket and a trey to go with 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Mason added two assists and a steal with two rebounds.
 
For the second straight game, Hawai'i led from wire-to-wire against the Highlanders, building its biggest lead of the season, 21 with 11:06 left in the second half. The 'Bows dominated the glass, out-rebounding UC Riverside by 25 for a season-high difference, 49-to-24.  UCR was 14 rebounds below their season average. UH also pounded in the paint, outscoring UCR, 38-to-18.
 
In the first half, UH led from the tipoff. The 'Bows went on a 14-to-4 run starting at the 13:27 mark that gave UH a 13 point lead, 20-7 with 11:09 left in the first half. Hawai'i would never look back and would maintain their double-digit lead for the rest of the game. Hawai'i's defense mixed it up with man-to-man and some zone to stymie the Highlander offense, holding them to just 22 points in the first half.
 
In the second half, UCR and UH traded baskets early, but then the 'Bows started to pull away with a 7-to-1 run that gave UH a 20 point lead, 48-28, with 13:41 left in the game. The Highlanders cut their deficit to just 11 points with 1:37 left in the game, but the 'Bows would score back-to-back layups by Kuehu and Ashleigh Karaitiana to put the game away. The Highlanders fell to 4-12 overall and 0-4 in Big West action.
 
Hawai'i returns home to face UC Davis on Thursday, Jan. 23 and UC Irvine on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 5:00 p.m.
