HONOLULU­—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team played a solid match on Tuesday afternoon defeating Nevada, 5-2 at the UH Tennis Complex.
 
UH was able to snatch the doubles point to begin the match. UH's duo of Sarah Gealer and Paulina Petriskova pulled away from Nevada's Sheila Smiley and Monika Magusiak for a 6-3 win. Nevada's Michelle Okhremchuk and Sheila Morales Hildago then held off Hawai'i's Cindy Nguyen and Xenia Suworowa for a 6-4 win to knot the doubles competition 1-1. The 'Bows pair of Rebecca Faltusz and Kelsey Daguio came through in the clutch to knock off the Wolf Pack's Juliette Legendre and Beatriz Garcia Planas, 6-4 to capture the doubles point and the early lead.
 
The Rainbow Wahine continued their momentum in singles play. No. 4 Petriskova was able to earn the first singles point over Caroline Konigsfeldt. In the first set, Petriskova edged out Koningsfeldt, 7-6 (1) and took the momentum from the 7-1 tie-breaker win into the second set in which Petriskova blanked her UN opponent, 6-0. Nevada's Smiley however made things close as she earned a point with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over UH's Gealer. On the No. 1 court, after dropping the first set, 1-6, UH's Nguyen battled back to take the second set, 7-6 (4) and then prevailed over Nevada's Okhremchuk  in the 10-point tie-breaker to decide the match, 10-8. Hawai'i later won the deciding point with Faltusz defeating Garcia Planas in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. The 'Bows' No. 2 player Suworowa showed her mettle, as she too came back in dramatic fashion to beat the Wolf Pack's Morales Hildago, 1-6, 7-5, 11-9.
 
UH will next play against No. 65 San Jose State on Thursday, Jan. 16.  Matches will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
