HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team overcame a sluggish start by rallying for a four-set win over No. 11 Penn State, Friday night on the second day of the 20
th Outrigger Volleyball Invitational at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 20-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-21.
The victory sets up the tournament's championship match on Saturday between the two unbeaten teams. Hawai'i and UCLA each won its first two matches of the tourney. The Bruins is the three-time defending champion with eight Outrigger titles while UH has six titles, most recently in 2010.

Jace Olsen set a new career-high with 15 kills, hitting .400 along with four digs and one block to lead the Rainbow Warrior attack. Outside hitter
Sinisa Zarkovic also surpassed his previous best with a match-high 22 kills, hitting .421, with six digs and two blocks.
Both teams played like they were in midseason form as the Warriors (2-0) hit .350 compared to .325 for the Nittany Lions (0-2). Penn State's Nick Goodell had a team-high 19 kills while Aaron Russell added 16 kills and four service aces.
The Warriors played catch-up from the beginning of the match falling behind 8-2 in Set 1 before catching the Lions at 14. Moments later, PSU scored three straight for a 21-17 lead and never looked back, hitting .368 for the set.
UH rallied and tied the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 win in Set 2. Down 14-12, the Warriors scored three straight capped by an ace by
Brook Sedore. After a service error by Sedore, Hawai'i reeled off three more, sparked by back-to-back hitting errors by Russell for an 18-15 lead.
The 'Bows jumped out to a 17-12 lead in Set 3 before PSU tied it at 18. UH inched ahead 21-19 following a pair of Nittany Lion errors. The teams traded side-outs until Zarkovic was stuffed on UH's first set point which tied the score at 24. After a kill by Sedore, Zarkovic redeemed himself with his 16
th kill, giving UH a 26-24 victory.
The Warriors surged ahead 22-16 in Set 4 before the Lions closed to within 22-20 following Russell's fourth ace. The teams traded points before Zarkovic ended it with his 21
st and 22
nd kills.
In the day's first match, UCLA (2-1) swept Ohio State, 25-14, 25-23, 25-21. Robart Page had a match-high 12 kills while Gonzalo Quiroga tallied five aces for the Bruins. Andrew Lutz posted nine kills to lead the Buckeyes (0-2).
The tournament concludes on Saturday with Penn State-Ohio State at 4:00 p.m. followed by the title match at 7:00 p.m.
