Cross Country Takes 14th At Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's cross country team placed 14th at the Stanford Invitational Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course. UH's "B" team took fourth at the HPU Invitational at the Kahuku Golf Course.
 
Leading the way for the Rainbow Wahine at the Stanford Invitational was senior Kevyn Murphy, who placed 38th crossing the finish line at the 6K course at 22:45, an identical time as last year's meet.
 
Freshman Caitlyn Foss was the next Hawai'i finisher at 24:26 to place 143rd overall followed by sophomore Kelsie Kobayashi (25:10, 176th), junior Louise Mulvey (25:33, 187th), junior Amanda Lee (25:59, 197th), and junior Melody Papalii (27:05, 205th).
 
Host Stanford captured the team title with 33 total points and featured the top two finishers in winner Jessica Tonn (21:00) and runner-up Aisling Cuffe (21:00).
 
UH's "B" team was led by senior Bronte Kaneakua, who finished the 5K course in 21:48 for 23rd place. Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine was junior Heather Delgado (22:15, 27th), junior Hayley Musashi (22:30, 28th), freshman Heather Rohrer (23:12, 30th), senior Denise Nakamura (23:42, 33rd), and sophomore Erin Carvalho (23:58, 34th).
 
Host HPU scored a perfect 15 points with all five finishers taking spots Nos. 1-5, including winner Fionna McKenna, who crossed the finish line in 18:22.
 
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the UH-Hilo Invitational, Oct. 12 in Hilo, Hawai'i.
