Rainbow Warriors To Host Nationally Ranked Fresno State

HONOLULU – Following two road games and a bye week, the University of Hawai'i football team returns to Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium to host nationally ranked Fresno State in a Mountain West contest, Saturday, Sept. 28. Kick-off is 6:00 p.m.
 
The Rainbow Warriors (0-3) are coming off a 31-9 loss to Nevada last week in Reno, Nev. Despite amassing a season-high 376 yards of total offense, UH was shut-out in the second half for the second consecutive game and committed six turnovers. Hawai'i played four quarterbacks after starter Taylor Graham left due to an injury in the second quarter.
 
Fresno State (3-0) held on to defeat Boise State, 41-40 last Friday in Fresno, Calif. Quarterback Derek Carr threw for 460 yards and four touchdowns and led the Bulldogs to the winning score with 2:14 remaining after BSU erased a 15-point third quarter deficit.
 
The Bulldogs enter this week's contest ranked No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches poll and No. 25 in the Associated Press poll.

Radio: ESPN 1420 AM will carry the game live with Bobby Curran (play-by-play), John Veneri (analyst), and Felipe Ojastro (sidelines). Chris Hart and Gary Dickman host the "Countdown To Kickoff" beginning at 4:00 p.m. HT, and also the halftime show. Neighbor islands can listen live on KNUI on Maui, KHLO in Hilo, KKON in Kona, KTOH on Kaua'i, and KNWJ in Pago Pago, American Samoa. In addition, the game is available on satellite radio on XM 203 and Sirius 93.

Ticket Discounts: UH Alumni Association paid members and members of the Military (including active, DOD civilians, reservists, and retired) will receive 50% off select adult tickets (maximum of eight). A valid UH Alumni Association membership card or military identification card is required when purchasing tickets at the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office (in advance) or the Aloha Stadium Box Office (in advance or on game day). Promotions: Hawaiian Telcom is the game sponsor and will distribute 10,000 sling-a-string backpacks (available at all stadium gates). One lucky fan will compete in the "Hawaiian Telcom Field Goal Kick" promotion during pre-game (register at Gate 3) and a UH student will compete in the "Hawaiian Telcom Quarterback Challenge" for the chance to win a Vacations Hawaii Trip to Las Vegas during the first timeout of the fourth quarter (register at Gate 7). Fans are encouraged to visit the Xtreme Fun Zone before the game in the parking lot across from the stadium ticket office.  Also, register at Gate 4 or 6 to win the "Best Seats In the House," compliments of Papa John's Pizza Hawaii and NAPA. The Farmers Hawaii Supa Bowzooka will be launching T-shirts into the stands between the first and second quarters and one fan will compete in the "Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Kick for Key" promotion during the first timeout of the third quarter, with the chance to win a one-night stay at an Outrigger property (register at Gate 2).

Coach To Cure MD: Both coaching staffs will be wearing Coach to Cure MD patches to raise awareness and funding for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. Fans are encouraged to donate online at www.CoachtoCureMD.org or donate $5 by texting CURE to 90999.

Band Performances: Local entertainer Karen Keawehawai'i will sing the national anthem and Hawai'i Pono'i.  For halftime the UH Rainbow Warrior Marching Band will perform the music of STAR WARS.
 
UH-FS Storylines
UH will play its second nationally ranked team this season (lost to #24 USC)…Fresno State has won three of the last four meetings in the series, including the last two in Honolulu (2009 and '11)…UH has won both meetings against a nationally ranked Fresno State team (38-34 vs. #18 FS in 2001 in Honolulu and 32-29 in OT vs. #22 FS in 2008 in Fresno)…Fresno State won last year's meeting in Fresno 45-10 and held a 42-3 halftime lead…UH leads the series in Honolulu, 14-11…The last time UH started the season 0-3 was in 2000 when it started that season 0-4 en route to a 3-9 campaign.
