HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team eyed a second straight series win but couldn't hold on to a late-inning lead in a 10-4 loss to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon at Les Murakami Stadium. The series finale was played as a non-conference contest as UH drops to 7-18 while the Gauchos improve to 14-12.

Hawai'i held a one-run lead before UCSB scored seven runs over the eighth and ninth innings to win going away. Dalton Kelly delivered a pinch-hit triple to help his team to the lead in the eighth inning, then delivered a two-RBI hit in the ninth as UCSB pulled away with the win. Cameron Newell led the Gauchos with three hits, two runs, and two RBI.

Adam Hurley and Stephen Ventimilia both had a pair of hits and a run with Ventimilia adding an RBI. Tyler Young and Austin Wobrock each added one hit and one run.

Brandon Trinkwon gave the Gauchos the early lead when his three-run homer off of Rainbow starter Scott Squier put them ahead 3-0. Squier battled with control issues early as he threw balls on seven of his first eight pitches and hit five Gaucho batters in his four innings. He surrendered three runs on three hits before Max Duval came in to start the fifth inning. Jon Flinn (1-3) was third out of the bullpen and was tagged with the loss in two-thirds innings of work. Reliever Domenic Mazza (1-0) earned the win for UCSB in three innings pitched.

The 'Bows scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. After Hurley scored on an RBI hit by Ventimilia, Young came home on a bases loaded walk to L.J. Brewster (1 H, 1 RBI). Wobrock then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Ventimilia gave UH the lead on a Marc Flores (1 H) ground out, one it would hold until the eighth inning.

The 'Bows conclude a 12-game homestand and now head out on the road for a pair Big West series. First up will be UC Irvine. The two teams play a three-game series beginning Friday, Apr. 5.
