HONOLULU – Senior
Dmytro Kovalyov won his final home doubles match and the University of Hawai'i Warrior tennis team beat UC Riverside 6-1 on senior day at the UH Tennis Complex. UH improved to 5-9 overall and 2-1 in the Big West Conference while UCR dropped to 2-15 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Kovalyov, UH's lone senior, won his doubles match at the one with partner
Jonathan Brooklyn topping The Highlanders' pair of Jimmy Roberts and Marcus Vizcarra, 8-1. In singles action, he fell in a marathon match to Jullian Ruffin on the No. 3 court, 7-6, 5-7, 12-10, in the final match of the day after the result had been decided.
After Kovalyov and Brooklyn's win at the one,
Nils Schuhmann and
Carter Lam took care of Kevin Griffin and Julian Ruffin, 8-6, to clinch the doubles point.
The Warriors won each victory via sweeps.
Danilo Casanova kicked off singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the six over Kelly Dickson and
Jared Spiker, in his first career start at No. 1, clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Jimmy Roberts.
Hawai'i now hits the road for a trio of matches. First up will be San Francisco on Wednesday, Mar. 3, at 11:00 a.m. PT.
