HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Warrior tennis team could not stop the No. 63 Idaho Vandals on Friday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex.
The Vandals took over the doubles point when they defeated the Warriors on the No. 1 and No. 2 Court.
Jonathan Brooklyn and
Dmytro Kovalyov were paired for the No. 1 court to face Marius Cirstea and Abid Akbar but fell to the Vandal pair, 8-5.
Jared Spiker and
David Schuster stormed the No. 3 court and were able to defeat UI's Dmitry Perevoshchikov and Matt Oddonetto, 8-4.
With the doubles point lost, UH turned to singles to take over the match, but could not gain momentum.
Carter Lam faced Cristobal Ramos Salazar on the No. 6 Court and took Ramos to three sets. Lam narrowly won the first set 7-5, but Ramos ran away with the next two sets, 6-2 and 6-3.
Spiker had the lone victory, beating Akbar at the two in three sets. Spiker was edged in the first set, 7-6(2), but fought back into the match when he won the second set, 7-5. The final set went Spiker's way, as he came away with the victory over Akbar, 10-6.
UH will have two weeks off before facing UC Riverside on Saturday, Mar. 30 at 10:00 a.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
