LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The 13
th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team dropped its first match as a ranked team this season, falling to No. 6 UCLA in straight sets Friday night at the Wooden Center. Set scores for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match was 26-24, 25-17, 25-23.
The Warriors (4-8, 3-6 MPSF) went toe to toe with the Bruins in sets one and three but could not pull out either game. Sophomore

JP Marks each chipped in with eight.
UCLA (9-7, 5-5) was led by Gonzalo Quiroga and Robert Page, who each tallied 11 kills. As a team, the Bruins hit .338 compared to .191 for the Warriors. In a match-up of the league's top two serving teams, both squads combined for only five aces in the match.
The teams met earlier this season in Honolulu with the Warriors rallying for a five-set thriller on the final day of the Outrigger Invitational. However on Friday, the Bruins closed out the match in straight sets which ended on UCLA's second try for the win and UH setter
Joby Ramos mishandling a set.
In Set 1, the Bruins got the early advantage, scoring four straight for a 20-16 lead. The Warriors rallied to tie the match at 24 after a kill by
Taylor Averill. After a Quiroga kill, Marks hit long giving UCLA the 26-24 victory.
In the second set, the Bruins led 15-11 at the media timeout after an ace by Spencer Rowe. Moments later, UCLA extended its lead to 19-13 after stuffing Ramos and went on to cruise to a 25-17 win.
The Warriors battled back in the third set, scoring five straight points for a 13-11 lead. Later in the set, the Bruins regained the lead with a 5-2 run for a 23-21 advantage and sided-out for the victory.
The teams will play again on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion.
