Men's Golf Completes Day One of Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational

Day One Results

PRINCEVILLE, Kaua`i--The University of Hawai`i men's golf team completed the opening day of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on Monday. Brian Lee fired a career-low 4-under 66 and is currently in contention alone in third place individually. The Hawai`i-Green Team is tied for 14th with Idaho at 4-over while the Hawai`i-Black Team is tied with Boise State for 17th at 6-over.

Lee's 66 is the lowest score for any Rainbow Warrior this season and it marked the lowest scored by Hawai`i since TJ Kua carded a 66 in the 2011 Kaua`i Collegiate Invitational at the Puakea Golf Course. Lee's previous career-low was 69 at the Wolfpack Classic last season. He started the round on the back nine and scorched his first few holes, getting birdies on 10, 15, 16, 18 with an eagle on 14. His first blemish on his scorecard came on the third hole, when he bogeyed. But Lee, a member of the Green Team, bounced back with back-to-back birdies on holes 4 and 5 before bogeying again on No. 7 to end his record round.

Rookie Skye Inakoshi led the Black team, shooting a 1-under 70 and is tied for 30th. His 70 is just one shot over his previous career low of 70 set a few weeks ago. Inakoshi started at the first hole with a bogey, but responded by posting birdies on three of the next five holes. He bogeyed on 9, 10 and 18 but in between recorded two birdies on 12 and 14.

The Green Team was also led by Justin Chu who is tied for 56th with a 2-over 74; Ryan Kuroiwa and Zacharuy Braunthal are tied at 75 with a 4-over 76; and Pono Tokioka is tied for 90th with a 7-over 79.

The Black Team features Nainoa Calip who is tied for 39th with an even par 72; David Saka is tied for 56th with a 2-over 74; Tommy Yamashita is tied for 80th with a 5-over 77; and Scotty Yamashita is tied for 88th with a 6-over 78.

The Rainbow Warriors continue the three-day tournament on Tuesday at the Princeville Makai Golf Course.
