HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i men's volleyball head coach
Charlie Wade announced the signing of Luke Owens of Kailua, O'ahu, to a National Letter of Intent.
Owens, a 6-foot-7 middle blocker, attends Kalaheo High School and also plays club volleyball for Kuikahi. He was a
Honolulu Star-Advertiser Fab 15 selection and all-O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red East first-team pick as junior in 2013, leading the Mustangs to the HHSAA State Championships for the second year in a row. As a sophomore, he helped Kalaheo to a fourth place finish at the state tournament.
In January, Owens helped Kuikahi 18s Red to a third place finish in the 18s Open Division at the SCVA Junior Boys Invitational in Anaheim, Calif.
"We are very excited to have Luke join our team," Wade said. "We got to know him at camp a couple of years ago and were very impressed with his work ethic and determination. He has developed into one of the best players in the state and will be a good player in our league. We are thrilled to have another blue chip recruit from Hawai'i stay home."
Owens is the Rainbow Warriors' first commitment for the 2015 season.
