The University of Hawai'i football team will renew a longtime rivalry this week in a Mountain West match-up against Wyoming, Saturday, Nov. 23, in Laramie, Wyo. Kickoff is 12:05 p.m. MT (9:05 a.m. HT) at War Memorial Stadium.
The Rainbow Warriors (0-10, 0-7 MW) and Cowboys (4-6, 2-4) were former rivals in the Western Athletic Conference and annually played for the Paniolo Trophy, which was awarded to the winning team. The series began in 1978 and ran through 1997 until Wyoming departed the WAC the following year for the Mountain West.
Hawai'i is coming off a 28-21 overtime loss to San Diego State last week in Honolulu. The Warriors never trailed in regulation and saw the Aztecs tie it at 21 with 2:34 left and eventually win in the extra period. UH running back
Joey Iosefa broke the school's single-game attempts record with 37 rushes for 150 yards and accounted for two touchdowns. Since returning from a foot injury, Iosefa has 72 rushes for 341 yards in two games.
Wyoming has lost its last four games since starting the season 4-2 and have surrendered 48 or more points during their losing streak, including last week's 48-7 loss at Boise State.
Hawai'i is looking to snap a 12-game road losing streak which dates back to 2011. UH, one of five remaining winless teams in FBS, is also trying to avoid a winless conference season for just the third time in school history (0-8 in 1994 and '98).

What's at Stake: The teams will play for the Paniolo Trophy. The word paniolo is Hawaiian for cowboy. The trophy was originally donated by the Wyoming Paniolo Society, a group of Hawai'i residents with roots in Wyoming. The trophy debuted in 1979, the year UH joined the Western Athletic Conference, and the series continued until 1997. The original trophy was lost and the teams will play for the newly designed Paniolo Trophy this season.
