Match Notes
The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team will play its first Big West home matches of the year when it hosts a pair of contests against UC Santa Barbara (Thursday, Oct. 10, 7:00 p.m.) and Cal Poly (Sunday, Oct. 13, 5:00 p.m.). Both matches will be at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium and admission is free.
The Rainbow Wahine opened league play on the road last weekend with a pair of tough losses. UH held a 1-0 second-half lead against the defending regular-season champs Cal State Fullerton in the league opener, before falling 2-1 in overtime. Two days later the Rainbow Wahine suffered a 2-0 shutout loss at UC Riverside.
It's a crucial weekend for the 'Bows as they look to keep pace in the league race as just the top four teams advance to next month's Big West Tournament.
UH will look to do that against two distinct squads. Cal Poly is the top offensive squad in the Big West, fueled by super sophomore Elise Kreighoff, the nation's leading scorer (15 goals). UCSB, meanwhile, is among the league's top defensive squads, posting a league-best seven shutouts and 0.92 goals against average.
The Rainbow Wahine lead the league at 16.5 shots per match, but have had difficulty converting those shots, ranking eighth at 0.91 goals per match.
