’Bows Aim For First Victory This Week At UNLV

Game Notes | Watch Video

The University of Hawai'i football team travels to Las Vegas, Nev., this week in search of its first victory of the season in a Mountain West match-up against UNLV, Saturday, Oct. 12. Kick-off is 5:05 p.m. PT (2:05 p.m. HT) at Sam Boyd Stadium.

The Rainbow Warriors (0-5, 0-2 MW) saw their season-opening losing streak extend to five games following a 37-27 loss to San Jose State last week at Aloha Stadium. UH led 14-3 in the first quarter before allowing the Spartans to score 31 unanswered.

Despite the loss, the UH offense has seemed to turn the corner the past two weeks, averaging 32 points and 452 yards of total offense against Fresno State and San Jose State. Last week, quarterback Sean Schroeder threw for a career-high 342 yards and three touchdowns while the offense generated 473 yards, its highest total under head coach Norm Chow.

The Rebels (3-2, 1-0) were idle last week after defeating New Mexico, 56-42 in Albuquerque, N.M., two weeks ago for their third consecutive victory. Following losses to Minnesota and Arizona, UNLV has wins over Central Michigan, Western Illinois, and UNM, surpassing its win total from a year ago.

Hawai'i leads the series 14-8, however, the Rebels own a 6-5 advantage in Las Vegas with wins in four of the last five meetings. UH's last win in Las Vegas occurred in 2007.
