Coed Sailing Makes It Five In A Row At Stoney Burke

SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Hawai'i sailing program opened the 2013-14 season by capturing the  Stoney Burke Intersectional, held Oct. 19-20, at Treasure Island.  UH continued its dominance at the early-season event, winning the regatta for the fifth straight year.
 
The Rainbows beat out 26 other teams, a mix of coed and women's squads, in capturing the regatta. The coed team tallied 101 points during the two-day event, seven points ahead of runner-up UC Santa Barbara. The Rainbow Wahine squad also competed, finishing 15th overall.
 
A total of 18 races—nine each in the A and B divisions—were completed over the weekend. UH blew away the field in the A division under the helm of Adam Pokras  and Ana-Melissa Kea  After finishing 12th in the opening race of the regatta, the squad finished in the top two in seven of the next eight races, including top finishes four times. Sailing in the B division for UH were Patrick ManuelJacob Paoletti and Julian Soto.  
 
Next up for the Rainbows is the PCCSC Singlehanded Championship, Oct. 25-27, in Los Angeles.
