Box Score

WAIPAHU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team and Ball State went toe-to-toe for 110 minutes before ending the match in 1-1 double-overtime tie in the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic Friday night at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

UH scored a first-half goal, however surrendered the equalizer late in the second half. With the result the Rainbow Wahine (4-1-2) remain undefeated in its last six matches overall this season (4-0-2) and last 10 at home dating back to last season (7-0-3). The Rainbow Wahine haven't dropped an overtime affair in its last six such situations (3-0-3).

UH got on the board first in the 28th minute off the nifty foot work of Krystal Pascua. The sophomore midfielder spun around a pair of Cardinal defenders and put home a beautiful left-foot shot that floated over the out-stretched arm of Cardinal goalkeeper Aubrey Buehler. It was Pascua's second goal of the season.

The Rainbow Wahine held that lead deep into the second half. But the Cardinals got a goal from Nicole Pembleton in the 80th minute to even things up. The play started with Ball State sending a ball into the box that bounced off Taaca. Pembleton promptly gathered the rebound and put home an open-net shot that ultimately sent the match into overtime.

Neither team was able to score in the extra 20 minutes, with the Cardinals ending the match with a slight 12-11 advantage in shots. It was UH's third double-overtime contest in its last four matches.

The Rainbow Wahine got a huge match from senior goalkeeper Kanani Taaca. Taaca registered a season-high seven saves, including a critical save in the first overtime period to help preserve the tie.

The Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic continues Saturday with Ball State taking on Detroit. UH and Detroit will conclude the tournament on Sunday with kickoff at 5:00 p.m.
