WAIPAHU – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team scored the first three goals of the match before eventually cruising to a 4-1 win in the annual alumnae match Sunday at the Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The Rainbow Wahine got goals from
Alexis Colacchio,
Krystal Pascua,
Christy Watanabe and
Tiana Fujimoto in the win. Former Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year Ambree Ako scored the lone goal for the alumnae.
UH got on the board less than five minutes in when Colacchio received a beautiful diagonal ball from Pascua then fired a shot that deflected off the hand of alumnae goalkeeper Erin Chow.
Pascua got a goal of her own when she chipped a ball over Chow from 12 yards out to make it 2-0 in the 20
th minute.
Watanabe made it 3-0 for UH in the 29
th minute when she made her way into the box and sent a low-liner into the corner of the goal.
However, the alumnae answered less than two minutes later as Ako rocketed a shot past UH goalkeeper
Kanani Taaca after receiving a through ball from former all-WAC midfielder Mari Punzal.
UH took a 3-1 lead at the half and added one more goal in the second half when Fujimoto scored off a
McKenzie McGoldrick assist in the 71
st minute.
Joining Ako and Chow on the alumnae roster this year were Britta Bourne, Jessica Domingo, Shawn Higa, Laurne Ho, Carmel Hurley,
Kaylee Kihara,
Brittani Lum, Mia Moe, Mari Punzal,
Alyssa Simbahon, Joelle Sugai and Lea Wakabayashi.
UH will now head back on the road again as its plays its final non-conference match at Cal State Bakersfield on Friday, Sept. 28, before making its Big West Conference debut at Cal State Northridge on Sunday, Sept. 30.
