Game Notes
PULLMAN, Wash. – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team (5-1-2) puts its unbeaten streak on the line when it travels to the state of Washington for a pair of non-conference matches.
The Rainbow Wahine will play at Washington State (4-1) on Friday, Sept. 14, before facing Eastern Washington (1-4-1) on Sunday, Sept. 16. UH has gone unbeaten in its last seven matches (5-0-2), tying a school mark set on three other occasions. With five wins, UH has already equaled its win total from last season.
Hawai'i wrapped up a six-match home stand this past weekend by capturing the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic.
Christy Watanabe's goal in overtime lifted UH to a 2-1 win over Detroit in the championship match on Sunday. The win extended UH's undefeated streak at home to 11 matches (8-0-3), one off the school mark.
The Rainbow Wahine now head to the road for the second time this year and the first time in nearly a month. UH is 1-1 on the road so far, losing at Nevada in its season opener and winning at UNLV. They will face their stiffest competition to date when they take on a Washington State squad that has won four of its five matches with its sole lose against fourth-ranked Duke. The Cougars defeated UH, 3-1, in Honolulu last year in the debut of Rainbow Wahine head coach
Michele Nagamine.
Hawai'i currently leads the Big West in points (49), goals (18) and assists (13). Sophomore forward
Tiana Fujimoto remains the league's top goal scorer with six.
