HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head diving coach
Mike Brown announced the signing of
Amund Gismervik to a National Letter of Intent. Gismervik will join UH this Fall for his freshman season.
“Amund is the best male platform diver we have recruited and he is an excellent springboard diver as well,” praised Brown. Assistant coach
Anita Rossing reiterated Brown's sentiment. “We were looking for a strong diver for our men's team and are very pleased that Amund will join us at Hawai'i.”
Following the signing of his NLI, the Stavanger, Norway native was selected to represent Norway at the 2012 London Olympic Games. He earned one of 34 qualifying spots during the 2012 FINA World Cup held in London in February, then recently was notified by the Olympic Committee of Norway of his addition to the team.
Gismervik has been one of the top divers in Norway. He holds a Norwegian national title and was a finalist in the 1-meter event at the 2011 FINA World Championships. He will compete in the 10-meter platform event in the Olympics.
Hawai'i begins competitive meets for the 2012-13 season this Fall.
