UH Nabs Three Medals At WAC Outdoor Championships

Day 3 Results

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team picked up three more medals on the third day of the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday at the Dan O'Brien Complex.

In the team standings, UH is currently in fourth place with 40.5 points. Idaho leads the standings with 51.5 points followed by Fresno State (45), Utah State (43), UH, New Mexico State (40), Nevada (31), and Louisiana Tech (22).

The Rainbow Wahine grabbed two medals in the pole vault as Cecilia Durocher and Robyn Morioka took silver and bronze, respectively. Each cleared 12-8 (3.86m) with Durocher clearing the bar with fewer misses. It also marked the first time since the 2008 WAC Indoor Championship that two pole vaulters won medals in the same conference meet.

WAC Indoor bronze medalist Camie Kohashi tied for fifth after clearing 11-2.25 (3.41m).

Senior TeRina Keenan won silver in the shot put with a heave of 49-9.75 (15.18m). Earlier this season, she grabbed the bronze medal in the event at WAC Indoor. She now has four career medals and will look for her third straight WAC gold in the discus on Friday.

A pair of Rainbow Wahine scored team points in the javelin as Karen Guravska and Kellsey Trimble placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Both were coming off personal best performances at last week's Oxy Invitational. Guravska, the reigning WAC Field Athlete of the Week, threw 137-10 (42.02m) while Trimble posted a mark of 137-6 (41.92m).

For the first time in school history, three Rainbow Wahine qualified for the 100-meter hurdles finals – Zhane Santiago (14.58), Samantha Balentine (14.76), and Samantha Esperanza (14.82).

Ashley Aitken qualified for the 800-meter run with the sixth fastest time at 2:13.78, while Esperanza made it to Friday's finals in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best 1:04.64.

Ashley Satterwhite just missed the finals of two events. The Honolulu native posted a PR in the 200-meters at 24.53 seconds and clocked in at 12.17 seconds in the 100-meters. She finished 10th in both events.

The meet concludes on Friday with another full day of competition.
