Men’s Tennis Swept By No. 55 New Mexico, 7-0

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai`i men's tennis team didn't have enough on Monday against No. 55 New Mexico, falling 7-0 at the Fertitta Complex in Las Vegas, Nevada. UH drops to 4-10 while the Lobos improve to 15-6.
 
In doubles play, Jonathan Brooklyn and Dmytro Kovalyov came close to defeating the nationally ranked Lobo duo, No. 37 Jadon Phillips and Phil Anderson, but eventually fell 8-5. The third pairing of James Hignett and Carl Ho topped Chas Okamoto and Charlie Rice, 8-4. UNM wrapped up doubles in the No. 2 court to complete the sweep heading into singles.
 
In singles action, Jared Spiker came close to defeating Samir Iftikhar, but could not finish him off, 7-5, 6-4. Conor Berg claimed another UNM win when he beat Nils Schumann, 6-4, 7-5. In the longest and closest match of the day, Okamoto won the first set against Ben Dunbar, the only set victory for UH on the day. Going into the third set, Dunbar was too much for Okamoto, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
 
The Warriors will stay in Las Vegas, Nev. and face off against UNLV on Tuesday, April 10, at 10:00 am PT.
