RUSTON, La. – The University of Hawai'i baseball team dropped its series finale to Louisiana Tech 4-1 on Saturday at J.C. Love Field. The Rainbows fall to 25-18 overall and 5-4 in the Western Athletic Conference while the Bulldogs improve to 20-23 overall and 3-9 in the WAC.
Breland Almadova batted 2-4 with one run for the 'Bows, who stranded runners in scoring position in each of their final four innings. Pi'ikea Kitamura recorded two hits and
Max Duval added one hit and one RBI.
Scott Squier (3-2) lost his second straight decision for Hawai'i. He recorded two outs in the fifth inning before
Brent Harrison came on to pitch 2.2 innings of relief. Squier was charged with two runs while allowing five hits and recording two strikeouts.
Trevor Peterson (4-4) earned the win for LaTech, allowing one run on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work. Ryan Gebhardt led the Bulldogs at the plate with a 3-5 performance and Justin Gordey had one run, one hit, and an RBI.
Pitching was the story of the game through four and one-half innings until Gordey's RBI-double in the bottom of the fifth inning gave LaTech a 2-1 lead. UH had numerous opportunities to tie or take the lead in the later innings but could not get timely hitting, finishing the game with 10 total hits and 14 runners left on base.
Hawai'i now returns home for three games against New Mexico State. The 'Bows and Aggies will kick off their WAC series at Les Murakami Stadium on Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
