Men’s Tennis Blanks Utah State, 7-0

LOGAN, Utah – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team swept doubles and won all but one singles match in straight sets en route to shutting out host Utah State on Saturday at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club. The shutout was UH's first of the season and fourth straight over the Aggies.

The Warriors (6-11, 3-2 WAC) close the regular season and now await their seeding for the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Tournament to be held from Apr. 27-29 in Las Cruces, N.M.

Doubles play featured three close matches with UH winning them all to secure the point. Nils Schuhmann and Danilo Casanova paired up for the first time this season, winning at the three, 8-6, over the USU (4-11, 0-4 WAC) team of Nate Ballam and Matt Sweet. Jonathan Brooklyn and Dmytro Kovalyov won at the one for the sixth victory in their last seven matches, and Charlie Rice and Chas Okamoto teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, Kovalyov won his fourth straight singles match, all in straight sets, as he topped Marcus Fritz, 6-0, 6-1. Brooklyn played his third three-setter in a row and finally broke through with his win at the No. 1 flight, turning back Sven Poslusny 7-5, 3-6, 10-7.
