Oride, Kua Among Top 25 At Western Golf Intercollegiate

Day 1 Results

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – University of Hawai'i men's golfers Cory Oride and T.J. Kua are tied for 17th and 22nd, respectively, after the first two rounds of the 66th Western Intercollegiate, Saturday, at the Pasatiempo Golf Club.
 
Oride, who got off to a blistering start in Round 1 at 3-under after his first four holes, shots rounds of 71 and 73 for a 4-over 144 total. Kua shot consecutive rounds of 73 for a 6-over 146 total.
 
As a team, the Warriors shot 382 and 378 and are currently in 13th place (760) among a stacked field that includes seven teams ranked among the top 14 nationally. Top-ranked Texas leads the field with a 704 followed by No. 14 Stanford (713), No. 6 UCLA (715), No. 5 USC (722), and No. 4 California (735).
 
Individually, New Mexico State's Justin Shin leads at 3-under 137, one stroke ahead of Stanford's Patrick Rodgers and two ahead of Texas' Jordan Spieth. A total of 26 golfers ranked among the Top 100 are competing in the tournament.
 
Also competing for the Warriors are Henry Park (76-77=153/t58th), Nainoa Calip (81-76=157/t71st), Brian Lee (81-85=166/t86th), and Alexander Chu (88-79=167/88th).
 
The tournament wraps up with the third and final round Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT.
