JACSKONVILLE, Fla. – The University of Hawai'i played its first ever collegiate dual match sweeping Jacksonville, 5-0, Tuesday morning at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex.
A little more than a week after making a strong debut in a home tournament against Hawai'i Pacific and Nittaidai, the Rainbow Wahine hit the road for its first taste of Division I action. The Rainbow Wahine were absolutely dominant against the Dolphins (0-2), not dropping a single set in the five flights.
Top duo
Emily Hartong and
Elizabeth Stoltzman set the tone early allowing just five points in the first set before cruising to a 21-5, 21-15 win over Cari Whitmire and Sammie Strausbaugh in flight one.
Senior transfer
Ashley Lee made her debut for the Rainbow Wahine, pairing with
Larissa Nordyke for a 21-16, 21-10 win over Kendall and Niatha Cullen in flight two. Jacksonville did come close to stealing a set in flight four as Alyssa Robertson and Nicole Teplitz extended
Alex Griffiths and
Monica Stauber in the final set. Still, Griffiths and Stauber pulled out a sweep, 21-13, 24-22. That would be as close as it would get in an otherwise strong performance by the Rainbow Wahine.
The Rainbow Wahine continue its week-long trip through the Sunshine State when they face undefeated Florida State (6-0) on Thursday, Mach 29 in Tallahassee at 4:00 p.m. ET (10:00 a.m. HT).
