FRESNO, Calif. – In a battle of the Western Athletic Conference's top two teams, the University of Hawai'i men's tennis squad fell, 6-1, to No. 18 Fresno State on Saturday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.

The Rainbows (3-8, 2-1 WAC) and Bulldogs (13-2, 4-0 WAC) entered the match as the WAC's only undefeated teams but FS emerged as the conference's lone unbeaten.

After a rough early stretch, Jonathan Brooklyn won his fourth straight competition with wins at both first doubles and singles. With partner Dymtro Kovalyov, he topped #65 Remi Boutillier and Francis Alcantara, 8-5, then defeated No. 22 Boutillier again with a 4-6, 7-5, (11-9) singles victory. His singles win was the highest ranked opponent he has defeated this season.

Despite Brooklyn and Kovalyov's doubles win, FS grabbed the doubles point with wins at the two and three. Charlie Rice and Carter Lam fell to David Ayoun and Zachary Leslie, 8-3, then the pair of Danilo Casanova and David Schuster lost to Reid DeLaubenfels and Jean-Charles Diame.

The Bulldogs went up 2-0 after Rice fell in singles play to Diame, 6-1, 6-1, but the Rainbows nearly got back into the match in five singles. Jared Spiker dropped the first set to Ayoun and was ousted 10-6 in a second set tiebreaker.

FS sealed the victory with a win at six singles, as Sai Kartik Nakireddi took down Schuester 6-4, 6-1. First and second singles played on with arguably the top two matches of the afternoon. Kovalyov battled No. 58 Alcantara but eventually fell in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. The match then concluded with Brooklyn's impressive win over Boutillier.

UH stays in Fresno to conclude its road trip, taking on the University of Tulsa on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. PT
