Box Score

HONOLULU – In a rain-shortened match on Thursday at the UH Tennis Complex, the No. 74 University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (1-5) lost to No. 20 Michigan, 4-0. The match was delayed four times due to the inclement weather before the Wolverines grabbed four singles victories to earn the win.

The match featured singles play first due to the unfavorable conditions. With the match at hand, doubles competion will not be played.

The Rainbow Warriors (1-5) did not have enough for one of the nation's elite teams, but appear to be turning the corner. Last week's Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week Chas Okamoto stood toe-to-toe with the Wolverines' number two player Shaun Bernstein, but could not hold on as he lost in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

The Wolverines (5-4) grabbed the first result when Barrett Franks downed Charlie Rice 6-4, 6-2. Jonathan Brooklyn was next to fall, suffering an admirable defeat to No. 10 Evan King, 6-2, 6-2. After Okamoto's three-set loss, Nils Schuhmann fell to Michael Zhu, 6-3, 7-5, to clinch the victory for the Wolverines.

Next up for Hawai'i is North Carolina on Wednesday, Mar. 7, at 2:00 p.m.
