Women's Hoops Closes Homestand Against San Jose State

Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (8-14, 3-4 WAC) begins the second round of Western Athletic Conference action against San Jose State (8-14, 3-4 WAC) this Saturday, Feb. 11 at 5:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Hawai'i got off to its best conference start in 10 years at 3-1, but have since struggled, falling at Fresno State and against Idaho and Utah State in Honolulu last week. The 'Bows are looking to bounce back against the evenly matched Spartans.

The Rainbow Wahine continue to be led by the consistent play of sophomore Kamilah Jackson, who is averaging a double-double this season with 13.6 points and 11.1 rebounds a game. She is ranked No. 9 in the NCAA DI and leads the WAC in rebounds per game and is No. 7 nationally with a conference-high 12 double-doubles this season. Jackson secured a season-high 20 rebounds against Idaho last week and now has accumulated 245 total rebounds this year.

Breanna Arbuckle is having a solid senior season, averaging 9.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Arbuckle led UH in their last outing against Utah State with 19 points and her one block in that game tied her for fourth place all-time in the UH record books with 134 career blocked shots. Currently, she is tied with former UH standout Jeanne Wade for fourth and Arbuckle now has her sights on the No. 3 career leader for UH, Nani Cockett who had 141 in her stellar career. Arbuckle has tallied 33 swats on the year and she along with Jackson and freshman point guard Alissa Campanero are the only three players to start all 22 games this season.

Making an immediate impact on the team has been two mid-year additions to the squad. Sophomore transfer Vicky Tagalicod and freshman center Kalei Adolpho have both contributed greatly after making their UH basketball debuts on Dec. 19. Tagalicod has started the last 13 games and is second on the team, averaging 10.2 points per game. She is averaging 30.4 minutes per game and has chipped in with 5.1 rebounds a game as well.

Adolpho joined the squad after spending the fall as a middle hitter on the UH women's volleyball team. She has added depth in the post and is second on the team with 6.8 rebounds a game and is fourth on the team averging 7.2 points per game.  In just 13 games off the bench, Adolpho is third on the team with 89 boards.

The Spartans have identical marks with Hawai' both overall and in conference at 8-15 and 3-4 and both will be battling for their fourth WAC win of the season this week. Similarly, San Jose State also lost to Utah State and Idaho last week at home. SJSU has three players scoring in double digits with Brittany Johnson leading the way. She leads the conference scoring 19.4 points per game and has team-highs in rebounds (8.6) and also is tied for the team lead with a .420 field-goal percentage (153-for-364). Sara Plavljanin is second in scoring for the Spartans at 13.7 points per game and leads her team with 48 3-pointers made, 46 steals, and 77 assists. Ta'Rea Cunnigan is third on the team with 11.8 points per game and is second with 45 steals.
