STANFORD, Calif. – At the Taube Family Tennis Stadium, the University of Hawai'i mens tennis team was defeated Tuesday by No. 9 Stanford. The Cardinal improved to 5-2 while the Rainbow Warriors dropped to 1-4.
The 'Bows were swept in doubles play, as Stanford won at the two and three to capture the doubles point. The pair of
Jonathan Brooklyn and
Nils Schuhmann delivered the best performance for Hawai'i, but fell to John Morrissey and Ryan Thacher at the one.
Stanford won at four, three, then five singles to clinch the win, but the most competitive matches were played after the contest had been decided.
Chas Okamoto continued his stellar play with a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 defeat of Denis Lin at two singles for the lone UH win of the match.
Dmytro Kovalyov lost 7-5, 6-4 in a hard-fought match at the one to No. 75 Matt Kandath, and
Danilo Casanova fell in three sets at six singles, 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (5).
UH is currently 1-1 on its road swing and will play their final match of the trip on Friday, Feb. 10 against Cal-Berkeley. Start time is set for 1:30 p.m. PT
