WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – University of Hawai'i men's golfer T.J Kua finished the 22nd Ameri Ari Invitational in a tie for 23rd place Friday at the Waikoloa Kings Course.
Kua entered the final round in a tie for sixth but shot a final round 3-over 75 to finish at 3-under 213. Prior to the final round the senior shot five consecutive rounds under-par at the Waikoloa Kings Course.
The three-day 20-team tournament included eight nationally ranked teams, including six teams ranked in the top eight. The Warriors finished in a tie for 18th place at 884.
Top-ranked Texas held on to its two round lead and claimed the team title with a 30-under 834. Longhorn golfer Jordan Spieth and USC's Jeffrey Kang tied for the individual title at 11-under par.
Junior
Cory Oride posted the lowest third round score for the Warriors with a 3-under 69 and finished the tournament in a tie for 49th place (74-75-69=218).
Also competing for UH were sophomore
Nainoa Calip (73-73-77=223/t76th), junior
Alex Chu (76-74-80=23/t103rd), and freshman
Brian Lee (76-81-80=237/t112th). As a team, UH tied for 18th place overall with a 20-over 884 total (293-290-301).
The Warriors will tee it up again when it hosts the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Feb. 15 at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, O'ahu.
