Final Results
KAHUKU, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team finished in ninth place at the 36
th John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Friday at the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer Course. After posting back-to-back rounds of 290 during the tournament's first two rounds, the Warriors shot 301 on Friday.
No. 11 California ran away with the team title and defended their Burns championship with a three-round total of 847. Individually, Duke's Julian Suri was the wire-to-wire winner, closing with a 2-under 70 to edge Max Homa of California by four strokes. Suri finished the tournament at 11-under 205.
Finishing behind the Golden Bears in the team standings were No. 15 UNLV (854) and No. 20 Duke (854), who tied for second, No. 25 New Mexico (855), and No. 14 Texas A&M (856). Rounding out the Top 10 were SMU (861), Colorado State (870), Nevada (877), UH (881), and No. 36 Arizona (887).
With pin placements and the wind causing trouble for much of the field, senior T.J Kua was one of only 11 golfers to shoot under par on Friday, posting a 3-under 69. The Lihue, Kaua'i native finished in a three-way tie for eighth place with a 3-under 213 total. The senior concluded his last Burns Intercollegiate with a Top 10 finish for the first time in his career, with his previous best tied for 14
th. Kua played his final 10 holes in 3-under par.
Junior
Cory Oride, who was tied for ninth entering the final round, struggled all day in the tune of a 5-over 77. His round included three bogeys and a double bogey and the Lihue, Kaua'i native finished 1-over 217 for a tie for 23
rd.
Sophomore
Tommy Yamashita finished the tournament with a final round 82 for a 228 total and tie for 60
th. Junior
Nainoa Calip posted his only birdie of the day on the 18
th in a round of 78 and also tied for 60
th. Junior
Alex Chu, who shot his second straight 77, finished at 233 for a tie for 81
st.
