Women's Hoops Hosts Undefeated Utah

Game Notes

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (2-5, 0-0 Big West) hosts a single game this Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2:00 pm against undefeated Utah (6-0, 0-0 PAC-12) at the Stan Sheriff Center.
 
Forward Kamilah Martin leads UH into battle, averaging 14.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game thus far this season. Martin has recorded three double-doubles this season and has been UH's leading rebounder in all seven games. She also leads the team with 10 steals and 16 assists. Martin needs just two rebounds to tie former UH standout Christen Roper who is the fifth-ranked Hawai'i rebounder all time. Roper tallied 724 rebounds in four seasons from 2000-03 while Martin has 722 in just a little over two seasons as a Rainbow Wahine. She is also No. 2 with a 11.1 rebounding average behind former UH All-American Judy Moseley's 12.6 per game, and also in the career record books, she is ranked No. 3 with 267 offensive rebounds and No. 5 with 455 defensive boards.
 
Three UH newcomers follow Martin to lead the 'Bows in points per game. Redshirt freshman Ashleigh Karaitiana is second on the team averaging 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while true freshman Destiny King is third with 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds a game. King has been one of the most versatile player on the UH roster thus far, and she has faired well as a rookie grabbing 30 rebounds with 14 assists and four steals. Junior transfer Diane Moore is the third UH rookie in the bunch. The Nagoya, Japan native is averaging 6.0 points and 2.4 boards per game.
 
Utah comes to Hawai'i undefeated with a 5-0 record with victories over Denver, Southern Utah, Michigan, Northern Colorado, Weber State and Utah State. The Utes currently have three players who have reached the 1,000 point milestone in their storied careers—Michelle Plouffe (1,002), Taryn Wicijowski (1,030), and local Hawai'i product Iwalani Rodriges (1,039). Rodrigues who prepped at Kalani, but resides in Ewa Beach is averaging 11.2 points an outing with a team-high 18 assists through five games. Plouffe leads the Utes with 17.8 points and 8.2 rebounds a game. She also has a team-high 13 steals and is second on the team with six blocked shots and she leads Utah with 12 3-pointers made with a .480 percentage from beyond the arch. Wicijowski is right behind Plouffe with 14.6 points and 8.0 rebounds with a team high seven blocked shots and 20 free throws made with 29 FT attempts.
