HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (2-5. 0-0 Big West) fell to No. 13 Oklahoma, 74-49 in the final game of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown. Kamilah Martin notched her 32nd career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds en route to earning her second all-tournament honor this season.
The 'Bows came out fired up, holding the Sooners to just 28 points in the first half and trailed going into the break by three points (28-25). The Sooners took an early seven point lead with 12:06 left in the first half, but UH fought back, going on a 10-to-4 run to cut their deficit to just one point on a trey by
Monica DeAngelis to be down 12-13. UH then cut the lead again to one with 6:52 left on a layup by Martin at 14-15. But that was as close as the Rainbow Wahine would get.
Destiny King paced UH early on, scoring Hawai`i's first seven points of the game. UH closed the half strong on a 9-0 run to be down just three points, 25-28 going into halftime.
But in the second half, Oklahoma (5-1, Big 12 0-0) clamped down on UH's offense and started to take advantage of their size in the post to score 24 of their 46 second half points in the paint. OU went on a 16-0 scoring run starting at the 12:56 mark, holding the Rainbow Wahine scoreless for almost seven minutes.
Ashleigh Karaitiana—who was shackled with four early fouls in the second half—snapped their scoring drought with a driving layup with UH trailing 39-59. The 'Bows never recovered from the long scoring run.
Martin scored all of her 11 points in the first half. She shot 3-for-13 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. She grabbed a season high five offensive rebounds with five defensive boards for her third double-double of the season. She has now tallied 34 career double-figure scoring games; 40 double-figure rebound games and has been UH's high scorer in 29 games and high rebounder in 53 games—including all seven this season. It marked her second double-double game in three games this weekend after posting 23 points and 14 rebounds against Oregon in their tourney opener on Friday night.
Hawai`i as a team was out-rebounded 34-to-30 and was out-scored in the post, 34-to-16.
