Game Notes
HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (1-3) hosts Oregon, Arkansas, and No. 13 Oklahoma this week in its second straight tournament. The Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown runs from Nov. 23-25 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The 'Bows went 1-2 this past week in the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic, notching its first win of the season under head coach
Laura Beeman over UT Martin. Hawai'i then fell to then No. 4 Stanford and No. 1 Baylor by large margins, however the 'Bows learned a great deal about themselves and their heart that cannot be quantified by the final score.
Junior forward Kamilah Martin continues to be the consistent leader of the team on offense and defense. Overall she leads UH with 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. She has been the top rebounder in each of UH's four games and against UT Martin she logged her 30th career double-double with 18 points and 10 boards. Martin also leads UH with seven steals and is second on the squad with seven assists to round out her stat line.
Hawai'i has started four newcomers who have made a great impact on the team early in the season. The only starting returnee in the line-up has been Martin. A pair of freshman—
Destiny King and
Ashleigh Karaitiana—have made the biggest contributions thus far on the stats sheet. King is currently second on the team averaging 9.0 points per game. Her versatility has been evident early on as she's played at the wing and at the point. She leads UH with 10 assists and had a season-high six coming in UH's win over UT Martin. King also has averaged 4.8 rebounds per game. Redshirt frosh
Ashleigh Karaitiana recorded a career-high and team-high 14 points in UH's loss against Stanford. She is third on the team with 6.8 points per game and second with 5.3 rebounds per game.
