Women's Soccer Faces UCSB And Cal Poly On The Road

Game Notes

The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team continues Big West play when it heads to the road for a pair of matches in California.
 
UH (6-6-2, 1-2 BWC) will face UC Santa Barbara (3-9-2, 0-3-1 BWC) on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m., before taking on Cal Poly (7-5-1, 4-0 BWC) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
 
Hawai'i currently stands in seventh place in the Big West after splitting a a pair of league matches this past weekend at home. The Rainbow Wahine picked up its first-ever Big West league win with a 2-0 shutout of UC Riverside on Friday. That extended UH's home unbeaten streak to 12 matches (9-0-3) dating back to last season, tying a school record.
 
However, that streak came to a close two nights later with a crushing 1-0 double-overtime loss to Cal State Fullerton, dropping UH to 1-2 in league play. 
 
The Rainbow Wahine now look to change its luck on the mainland where they are 1-5 overall this year and 2-17 in its last 19 matches. In its most recent road match, UH lost to Cal State Northridge, 2-0, in its the program's Big West debut.
 
Sophomore forward Tiana Fujimoto continues ot lead the team with six goals, while senior goalkeeper Kanani Taaca has recorded 51 saves on the year and a 1.55 goals against average.

About UCSB: The Gauchos are still searching for their first league win of the year after dropping a pair of road matches at Long Beach State (2-1) and UC Irvine (3-1) this past weekend...UCSB is winless in its last six matches, including five losses....the Gauchos are 1-4-2 at home this season with a win vs. San Francisco, 3-1, on Sept. 14...Sara Feder is the the team's leading scorer with four goals.

About Cal Poly: The Mustangs have been the surprise of the Big West thus far...picked sixth in the preseason poll, Cal Poly currently leads the league with a perfect 4-0 mark...the Mustangs picked up a pair of huge overtime road wins at UC Irvine (2-1) and Long Beach State this past weekend...Cal Poly came back from two goals down at the halftime to eventually beat the 49ers... Elise Krieghoff leads the league in goals with eight.
