LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team suffered its worst loss of the season in a 5-0 shutout against Long Beach State Friday night at George Allen Field.

The Rainbow Wahine (8-9-2, 3-5 Big West) fell in an early hole and could never recover against a hungry 49er squad battling for a spot in the postseason. Long Beach State (12-6, 5-3 Big West) scored three goals in the first half alone, including a score just seven minutes into the match to set the tone.

UH, meanwhile, was shutout for just the sixth time 19 matches this year. The road struggles also continued for the Rainbow Wahine who dropped its sixth straight road match to fall to 1-8 away from home this year.

Five different 49ers found the back of the net—Nadia Link , Eileen Maes, Kristyn Benavidez scored in the first half, while Jessika Oseguera and Elizabeth Lyons—tacked on a pair of second half goals. Link and Lyons also each added an assist for Long Beach State.

Senior goalkeeper tallied six saves for the Rainbow Wahine, who were out-shot, 16-7

The Rainbow Wahine will play its final match of the 2012 campaign when they travel to UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 28. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
