The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team will wrap up its 2012 regular season and its inaugural campaign in the Big West Conference with a pair of road matches in Southern California this weekend.
The Rainbow Wahine take on Long Beach State on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7:00 p.m. PT before playing its season finale at UC Irvine on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:00 p.m. PT
UH is coming off a pair of hard-earned home wins over UC Davis (3-2) and Pacific (2-1) over the weekend to move its record to 8-8-2 overall and 3-4 in the Big West. The Rainbow Wahine have matched their highest season win total since 2008 and finished the year with a 7-1-2 home record, making them undefeated in 14 of their last 15 matches at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The wins also moved UH up to sixth place in the league standings, however the team will look to play the role of spoiler this weekend after being eliminated from the four-team Big West Tournament following this past weekend's league results.
Both of UH's opponents this week are jockeying for a spot in the tournament. Preseason favorite Long Beach State (11-6, 4-3 BWC) sits in fifth place and is currently on the outside looking in, while defending regular season champion UC Irvine (9-8-1, 5-1-1 BWC) is tied for second though yet to clinch a spot.
After struggling to score goals early in Big West play, UH has now netted seven in the last three matches.
Tiana Fujimoto ended her scoring drought by finding the back of the net in each of UH's wins over UC Davis and Pacific—her first pair of goals in league play. The sophomore forward leads eight goals on the season.
