IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team opens tournament play at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Championship, which runs from Oct. 19-23 at the Anteater Tennis Stadium in Irvine.
All nine players will be representing UH at this tournament, led by Western Athletic Conference first team all-conference singles player
Jonathan Brooklyn. Brooklyn enters the tournament seeded seventh in singles and, with partner
Dmytro Kovalyov, fourth in doubles.The West Regionals consist of a singles and doubles main draw and is one of eight regional tournaments across the country.
Earlier this season, Brooklyn and Kovalyov advanced to the third round of the ITA All-American Championships qualifying doubles held in Tulsa, Okla. In the first two rounds, the duo defeated Hunter Callahan and Chris Diaz of Ohio State to open the day and won their second round matchup over the Minnesota tandem of Rok Bodin and Leandro Toledo.
This week's tournament features players representing Southwest region teams, including Pepperdine, Cal Poly, San Diego, UC Irvine, USC, San Diego State, Santa Barbara, UCLA, LMU, UC Riverside, Arizona, and Hawai'i.
