SAN FRANCISCO – The University of Hawai'i sailing program started the 2012-13 season with a bang as the coed team captured the Stoney Burke Intersectional, held Oct. 12-13, at Treasure Island. It marked the fourth straight year that the Rainbows have captured the regatta.
The Rainbows beat out 24 other teams, a mix of coed and women's squads, in completing their four-peat. The Rainbow Wahine squad was also in the field, finishing seventh overall and tops among women's team's entered.
The coed team tallied 91 points during the two-day event, easily distancing themselves from second-place Washington (105 points). A total of 16 races, eight each in the A and B divisions, were completed over the weekend.
Adam Pokras and
Cienna Patmont captured the A division, finishing with 31 points.
James Foster,
Ana-Melissa Kea and
Mitchell Icard raced in the B division finishing in third place with 60 points.
The women's team finished with 176 points and were powered by
Madeline Kennedy and
Katrina Berry in the A division and
Hanne Nagatani and
Lindsay Stewart in the B division.
Next up for the Rainbows is PCCSC Singlehanded Championship, Oct. 19-21, in Los Angeles.
