HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team will open the spring season this weekend hosting  No. 7 Kentucky at the Rainbow Warrior Challenge. The two teams will play a flight tournament format on Saturday, Jan. 7 (10:00 a.m.) and Sunday, Jan 8 (9:00 a.m.).

The two-day event will be comprised of three flights, each having three players who will play a round robin to crown three flight champions. The matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex.

The Rainbow Warriors return all-WAC performer Jonathan Brooklyn who finished last season with a 13-11 overall record and a dual match record of 10-7. He suffered just one singles loss (5-1) in Western Athletic Conference play.

New to the squad this year is transfer Charlie Rice. The lone senior on the team played three seasons at Embry-Riddle University in Arizona before joining the 'Bows this Fall. He was an NAIA second-team all-American his sophomore season and opened the Fall of 2010 ranked No. 6 nationally in singles.
