HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i mens tennis team embarks on their first road trip of the spring season, a six-day, three-match tilt to the Bay Area. The Rainbow Warriors will play a trio of ranked opponents, first taking on No.64 St. Mary's (Feb. 5), followed by No.6 Stanford (Feb. 7), then conclude the trip against No.13 Cal-Berkeley (Feb. 10).
The 'Bows (0-3) have had a tough start to the season, but are seasoning themselves against top-notch competition. They were defeated by current No.14 Mississippi State sandwiched by losses to Gonzaga and current No. 62 UC Santa Barbara.
UH nearly defeated UCSB in the final contest of its three-match stint. The 'Bows earned the doubles point on the heels of
Danilo Casanova and
Chris Meyer's tie-break win in three doubles. UCSB rallied in singles play, however, to edge UH, 4-3.
Headlining the Rainbow Warriors is
Jonathan Brooklyn who has competed at one doubles and one singles each time out and searching for his first win. Freshman
Chas Okamoto, a local product from Kauai has emerged as a formidable talent, having posted wins in doubles and singles.
