HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i women's basketball team (7-11, 2-1 WAC) held off a scrappy New Mexico State team, 51-48. Sophomore Kamilah Jackson led UH with her 10th double-double of the season to lift the 'Bows to its first 2-1 WAC record since the 2002-03 season.

Jackson had a team-high 16 points going 4-of-10 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. She also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds with two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. It marked her 23 double-double in her career. Sophomore transfer Vicky Tagalicod added nine points with four rebounds and freshman Kalei Adolpho came off the bench to contribute seven points, five rebounds and one blocked shot.

The Rainbow Wahine struggled early, turning the ball over four straight times to start the game, dropping to a quick 5-0 deficit. From that point, the 'Bows kept the Aggies close, but trailed until the 7:30 mark in the first half when Jackson hit a pair of free throws to give UH an 18-17 lead. UH never relinquished the lead after that.

But the Aggies (4-15, 1-3 WAC) would battle and never allowed UH to get more than an eight point lead, and trimmed their deficit to one point twice with less than four minutes to go in the game. NMSU's Tabytha Wampler hit her last jumper with UH still leading 49-48 with two minutes left. Later, UH freshman Alissa Campanero hit a pair of clutch free throws with 25 seconds left to increase UH's lead to 51-48. The Aggies got two 3-point attempts off with time winding down, but Breanna Arbuckle came down with the final rebound of the game to seal the win.

After giving up those four early turnovers, the 'Bows committed just six more for a season-low of 10 in the game. It was the lowest turnover total since the Rainbow Wahine committed seven against Chattanooga on Dec. 16, 2006. New Mexico State won the battle in the paint, 32-to-22 and they out-rebounded Hawai`i, 37-to-33. But UH got the edge in points off of turnovers, 14-to-11 and bench scoring at 13-to-2.

New Mexico State's Tabytha Wampler scored a game-high 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting with two 3-pointers made. Wampler also had a team-high nine rebounds with three assists. Kaitlyn Soto added 12 with four rebounds and two assists.

The Rainbow Wahine hit the road next week to face Nevada on Jan. 26 and Fresno State on Jan. 28.
