Men’s Basketball Looks To Rebound Versus New Mexico State

Game Notes

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team (10-8, 2-2 WAC) plays an important Western Athletic Conference contest when it hosts New Mexico State (14-5, 4-0 WAC) on Saturday, Jan. 21. The game is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be the second game of a doubleheader with the women's basketball team.

After starting league play 2-0, the Rainbow Warriors have dropped their last two games. Both contests came down to the wire with the latest loss a crushing 74-70 home setback to Louisiana Tech on Thursday. The 'Bows played the game short two starters as senior captains Zane Johnson and Jeremiah Ostrowski were both sidelined. The team also played down the stretch without its third captain, junior center Vander Joaquim, who fouled out with five minutes left in regulation.

The loss dropped UH into a tie for third in the WAC. UH now looks to keep pace in the conference race, but must do so against a New Mexico State team that has won its first four conference games to put them in a tie for first with Nevada early. The Aggies won their sixth straight game overall with a 79-63 win at San Jose State on Thursday.

The team will conduct an autograph session after the conclusion of Saturday's game on the concourse near Gate B. The 'Bows will hit the road for games at Utah State (Jan. 26) and Idaho (Jan. 28).
