UH Divers Headline Wisconsin Meet

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Wisconsin in a dual meet on Saturday. The Senior Day meet was held at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Senior diver Daniella Nero stole the show for Hawai'i, scoring personal bests on the springboard dives. Nero won the one- and three-meter women's events with Genevieve Bradley placing third. Bradley posted personal bests on both dives as well.

On the men's side, Cohen won the one-meter dive with teammate Luke Hayes scoring a personal best in winning the three-meter.

Senior swimmers Sean Reilly and Perry Sharify led the men's team to victory. Reilly swept both the 50 freestyle (20.84) and 100 freestyle (45.70), while Sharify swept the 100 breaststroke (57.25) and 200 breaststroke (2:04.79). Additionally, Vlad Anastasescu took first in the 100 backstroke (51.07), Jayson Hagi won the 1000 freestyle (9:36.66), and Lazar Bogdanovski won the 200 backstroke (1:43.13).

A team of Anastasescu, Sharify, Luca Mazzurana, and Reilly opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:31.22.

On the women's side, senior Christa Prior led the team with two first-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (56.19) and 200 backstroke (2:01.91). Hayden Maclean also took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.14. The women finished off the meet with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with Prior, Sofia Mustelin, Rachel Cote, and Jasmine Alkhadi finishing with a time of 1:35.86.

 The swimming and diving teams now head in different directions for postseason play. The men's swimmers will travel to Long Beach, Calif. to compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming Championships from Feb. 15-18. The men's diving team will compete in the MPSF Diving Championships held Feb. 16-18 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

On the ladies side, both the swimmers and divers travel to San Antonio, Tex. for the Western Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships. The tournament will be held Feb. 22-25.
