Game Notes
HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team returns to the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium where it will host Hawaii Pacific in a non-conference match Sunday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. and admission is free.
UH just wrapped up three-match road trip through California, going winless in all three matches. The Rainbow Wahine nearly upset #14 UC Irvine (2-1), came out flat against Long Beach State (3-0) and capped the trip by playing strong against Saint Mary's (1-0) before being undone by an own goal.
The Rainbow Wahine (0-6) are still searching for their first win of the season under first-year head coach
Michele Nagamine and are also looking to end an 11-match winless streak at home dating back to last year, which is tied for the longest streak in school history.
Nagamine will look to end that streak versus her former team. Before coming to UH, she served as the head women's soccer coach at Hawai'i Pacific University (2008-10) where she turned a losing program into a conference contender. She inherited a team that won just three games in 2007 and by her second year lifted the team to a 10-8-1 record and a third-place finish in the PacWest Conference. For her efforts she was named the 2009 PacWest Coach of the Year. In 2010, the team finished with its second straight winning record.
UH has played HPU a total of nine times and has dominated the series, winning all nine matches and outscoring the Sea Warriors, 30-3 in those matches.
