Warriors Begin Final WAC Season At Louisiana Tech

The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team opens Western Athletic Conference play with a road game at Louisiana Tech, Saturday, Oct. 1 in Ruston, La. Kick-off is 6:00 p.m. CT (1:00 p.m. HT) at Joe Aillet Stadium.
 
The Warriors (2-2) open conference play against the Bulldogs for the third straight year and fourth time in the last five years. UH defeated Tech, 41-21, last season in Honolulu, however, the Bulldogs won, 27-6, in Ruston in 2009.
 
Hawai'i is coming off a 56-14 rout of UC Davis last Saturday at Aloha Stadium. Quarterback Bryant Moniz tied an NCAA record for most touchdowns in a half with seven while setting a new school-record with 424 yards passing in a half as the Warriors built a 49-0 lead at intermission. For his efforts, Moniz was named WAC Player of the Week for the second time this season.
 
Tech (1-3) dropped an overtime heartbreaker at Mississippi State, 26-20 in overtime. Two weeks ago, the Bulldogs held a 34-7 lead over Houston late in the third quarter before the Cougars rallied with 28 unanswered for the win. LTU's three losses have been by a total of nine points.

Series Information: UH and LTU have met nine previous times with the Warriors holding a 7-2 advantage. In Ruston, the series is tied at 2-2. Head coach Greg McMackin is 2-1 vs. LTU with wins in 2008 and '10.
 
Warrior Storylines
UH begins its 33rd and final season of WAC play and is the senior member of the conference. UH joins the Mountain West Conference in 2012…UH is 12-20 all-time in WAC openers…This game marks the third straight year and fourth in the last five years that UH opens WAC play against Louisiana Tech…Tech won the last meeting held in Ruston, 27-6, in 2009 while the Warriors defeated the Bulldogs last season in Honolulu, 41-21…In UH's win over LTU last season, quarterback Bryant Moniz was 42-of-58 for 532 yards and threw four TDs…UH leads the series 7-2, however, both losses have come in Ruston where the series is tied at 2-2…UH ranks 12th nationally in passing offense (326.8) while LTU ranks 107th in passing defense (278.2)…UH has won 10 of its last 11 WAC games dating back to 2009 (only loss at Boise State in 2010)…Under head coach Greg McMackin, UH is 8-5 during the month of October, including a perfect 5-0 last season.
