Box Score

LAS VEGAS – The University of Hawai'i remained winless on the road following a 3-0 loss to UNLV in the UNLV Nike Classic Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Field. The Rainbow Wahine fell to 1-8 overall with five of their losses coming on the mainland.

UH gave up a goal five minutes in, but stayed within striking distance for nearly the entire match. However, the Rebels (3-6-1) scored two goals in the final three minutes of regulation to send the match out of reach for the Rainbow Wahine.

Julie Owens got UNLV on the board early when she connected on a free kick from the top of the box in the sixth minute. Katherine Orellana scored in the 87th minute and Jenn Wolf in the 89th minute to seal the deal for the Rebles, who out-shot UH, 17-11 for the match.

Kanani Taaca recorded six saves for the Rainbow Wahine, who surrendered three goals for the second time in three days. Meanwhile the Rainbow Wahine continued to come up empty on offense as the team failed to score for their fourth straight match on the mainland.

The Rainbow Wahine will next host their annual alumnae match on Sunday, Sept. 25 at the UH Lower Campus practice field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
