LAS VEGAS – The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team continue to find the going tough on the road with a 3-0 loss to San Diego State in the UNLV Nike Classic Friday at the Peter Johann Field. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 1-7 on the season with the loss.
UH was looking to ride the momentum of a 6-2 win last Sunday—the team's first of the season—into Friday's match against the Aztecs. But SDSU (6-2-2) would have none of it, taking a 1-0 lead into the break, before tacking on two second-half scores. It was the third straight shutout loss on the mainland for the Rainbow Wahine who fell at Saint Mary's (1-0) and Long Beach State (3-0) earlier this month.
Hannah Keane scored the first goal of the match in the 26
th minute to give the Aztecs the lead. Megan Jurado sealed the win with a pair of goals in the second half –the first coming less than two minutes after intermission and the second coming just 12 minutes later.
Despite the loss, the Rainbow Wahine did put some pressure on the Aztec defense as SDSU out-shot UH just 12-10.
Kaylee Kihara had a team-high three goals, while UH also generated four corner kicks. Junior
Kanani Taaca posted three saves for the Rainbow Wahine.
Hawai'i will next face tournament host UNLV on Sunday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is 1:00 p.m. PT (10:00 a.m. HT).
