Women’s Soccer Embarks On First Road Trip

Game Notes

IRVINE, Calif.—The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team hits the road for the first time this season when they travel to California for a trio of matches.

It will be a challenging road trip for UH which begins on Friday, Sept. 2 with a match against No. 14 UC Irvine, the squad's first ranked opponent this season. UCI is off to a 4-0 start, including a 2-1 overtime win over defending Western Athletic Conference champion San Jose State.

UH will then face Long Beach State on Sunday, Sept. 6.  The 49ers, coming off a 14-6-2 season, is 2-2 so far this year, including a 2-1 win at No. 25 in their season opener.

The Rainbow Wahine will cap the trip by traveling north to take on Saint Mary's in Moraga on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The Gaels are 1-1-1 and will host a pair of home matches against Northwestern and Cal Poly before taking on UH early next week. The Gaels beat UH last season in Moraga, 3-0.

The Rainbow Wahine are 0-3 in the young season with home losses to Washington State (1-3), North Dakota State (2-3) and California (0-3). It is UH's first 0-3 start since the 1996 season. Despite a 3-0 loss to Cal in its last outing, UH hung tough, trailing just 1-0 for the majority of the match. Senior defender Brittani Lum leads the team with two goals.
